3 Aspects for Sermons

I was reading George Will’s book on baseball, Men at Work, and it occurred to me all sermons should contain three parts – not necessarily 3 points – they being…

  • How God, in fact, behaves toward us.
  • How we ought to behave toward God.
  • How we ought to behave toward each other.

Of course, sermons do talk about how we do behave toward God (in support of how we ought to behave toward God) and how we do behave toward each other (in support of how we ought to behave toward each other).

I find Scripture opens up to me more readily if I begin with How God behaves towards us and work my way down.
